If you haven't seen the news yet , you can follow the hurricane, and its effects on various websites. The two which are particularly good are : www.bbc.co.uk/news and http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/tropicalcyclone.  These tell you a lot about Tropical storms and link to the sites which give you more information.

National Poetry Day

As you may have realised, today is National Poetry Day. I thought you would appreciate a poem which sums up my love of Geography / travel :

W.J. Turner's poem "Romance", 1939.When I was but thirteen or so
I went into a golden land,
Chimborazo, Cotopaxi,
Took me by the hand.

My father died, my brother too,
They passed like fleeting dreams,
I stood where Popocatapetl
In the sunlight gleams.

I dimly heard the master's voice
And boys' far-off at play,
Chimborazo, Cocopaxi
Had stolen me away.

I walked in a great golden dream
To and fro from school -
Shining Popocatapetl
The dusty strets did rule.

I walked home with a gold dark boy
And never a word I'd say
Chimborazo, Cotopaxi
Had taken my speech away:

I gazed entranced upon his face
Fairer than any flower -
O shining Popocatepetl
It was thy magic hour:

The houses, people, traffic seemed
Thin, fading dreams by day,
Chimborazo, Cotopaxi
The had stolen my soul away.

Bond comes to the Highlands

The latest James Bond film has been made partly in Glencoe.Apparently the film crew have been blown away by the stunning scenery.

S1, World facts

Funny facts:

Loch Lomond

These are views of Loch Lomond from the 'Whangie' on Saturday. Loch Lomond is a 'moraine dammed lake'.

The Whangie, Trossachs

I went for a lovely walk on Saturday and thought you might like these pictures of the Geological structure that is called the 'Whangie'.It is up above Loch Lomond, near Blanefield. The pictures were taken by a friend....note the lovely blue sky!!

The rock is volcanic and geologists suspect that the rock was split in two by a large earthquake. It certainly seems to look like this. The other theory is that they are rocks that were partially'plucked' away by glaciers.
